TNI News Service
Webdesk, TNI Hyderabad, 24th July 2014: At least 25 school students along with the driver of their bus were killed when the bus collided with the Nanded – Secunderabad passenger train at an unmanned railway crossing in Medak district. The exact location of the accident is Chegunta in Masaipet village of Veldurthi Mandal in Medak district. The victims included children, aged between seven and 14, from Kakatiya Technol School in Toopram. Most of the victims were killed on the spot. The shattered body of the bus was found at kilometer away from the collision indicating that it was dragged by the momentum of the train. There were 40 students on board the bus. The toll may rise as many of the injured are in a critical condition. The place witnessed a horrific situation with cries all around of the injured and the parents. An inquiry will now determine what led to the latest accident but it is likely to impact less on the negligence of the railways in installing gates and manning the 12,582 road – rail crossings across the country that are veritable death traps.
